The Gerontological Society of America

Details: 

The Gerontological Society of America is a non-profit professional organization with more than 5000 members in the field of aging. GSA provides researchers, educators, practitioners, and policy makers with opportunities to understand, advance, integrate, and use basic and applied research on aging to improve the quality of life as one ages.

American Aging Association (AGE)

Details: 

The American Aging Association (AGE) is a national not-for-profit organization whose aims are:

  • To promote biomedical aging studies directed towards increasing the functional life span of humans with one goal being to slow the aging process.
  • To keep the public informed of the progress of aging research and of practical means of achieving a long and healthy life.
  • To increase knowledge of gerontology among physicians and others in the health fields.

The Stroke Association

Details: 

The Stroke Association is the only national charity solely concerned with combating stroke in people of all ages. It funds research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehabilitation, and helps stroke patients and their families directly through its Rehabilitation and Support Services. These include Communication Support, Family and Carer Support, information services and welfare grants. We also campaign, educate and inform to increase knowledge of stroke at all levels of society, and we act as a voice for everyone affected by stroke.

The Stroke Association produces a number of publications including patient leaflets, Stroke News (a quarterly magazine) and information for health professionals.

British Society of Gerontology

Details: 

The British Society of Gerontology aims to promote the understanding of human ageing and later life through research and communication. It seeks to foster the application of this knowledge to the improvement of the quality of life in old age.

BSG's main activities are concerned with promoting the exchange of ideas and information. An important element is the programme of meetings, which as well as providing venues for informal discussion and formal presentations, create opportunities for members to publish and disseminate their work. The Society is also increasing its activity in the promotion of research.

British Geriatrics Society

Details: 

The Society is the only professional association, in the United Kingdom, of doctors practising geriatric medicine. The majority of the 2300 members worldwide are consultants in geriatric medicine, the psychiatry of old age, public health medicine, general practitioners, and scientists engaged in the research of age-related disease. The Society also has members in the nursing, therapy and pharmacology professions.

International Psychogeriatric Association

The International Psychogeriatric Association (IPA), founded in 1982, is a unique and diverse professional healthcare community promoting better geriatric mental health – across disciplines, across borders, and across geriatric issues. Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Nurses, Primary Care Physicians, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Scientists, and many other healthcare professionals come to the IPA community from all over the globe to discuss, learn, share, and research information about behavioral and biological aspects of geriatric mental health. IPA promotes research and education, facilitates an international exchange of ideas on Psychogeriatric issues, and fosters cross-cultural understanding of the latest developments in the field.

International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics

Details: 

The mission of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics is to promote the highest levels of achievement of gerontological research and training worldwide, and to interact with other international, inter-governmental, and non-governmental organizations in the promotion of gerontological interests globally and on behalf of its member associations. The Association pursues these activities with a view of promoting the highest quality of life and well being of all people as they experience ageing at individual and societal levels.

IAGG has two standing committees: the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA) and the International Council of Gerontology Students Organization (ICGSO).
