19th IAGG World Congress of Gerontology and Geriatrics (Paris 2009) - call for proposals

The organisers of the 19th IAGG 2009 congress are soliciting proposals for symposia and/or speakers at the 2009 meeting to be held in Paris on 5th to 9th July. Please could you submit your suggestions on-line through the IAGG Paris 2009 website.

Funding - New Dynamics of Ageing, Third call for proposals

The New Dynamics of Ageing (NDA) is a seven year multidisciplinary research programme concerned with improving the quality of life of older people. The ESRC, EPSRC, BBSRC, MRC and AHRC are announcing two calls within the programme:

  1. a call for proposals for Collaborative Research Projects (CRPs)
  2. a call for applications for participation in an IDEAS Factory on Nutrition and older people

The British Embassy in Tokyo has produced a report on Japan's ageing society with a focus on social and policy aspects of ageing.

Nature ageing supplement

Nature have produced a suplemental issue on ageing, containing a collection of recent articles related to ageing in Nature.

The Wellcome Trust has produced a publication on Ageing - Can we stop the clock? which can be downloaded from their website

Second Trans-Atlantic awareness and Collaboration Symposium on Aging Research

The American Aging Association will be hosting the Second Trans-Atlantic awareness and Collaboration Symposium on Aging Research as part of their Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas in June 2007. The BSRA will be sponsoring a Member of BSRA to participate as one of the six UK speakers in this symposium. The successful applicant will be awarded a bursary of up to £1000 towards the cost of travel and accommodation and AAA have waived the registration fees.

British Council for Ageing (BCA) launched

The British Council for Ageing (BCA) was launched at the Palace of Westminster on 12th October 2006, see the press realease here and the speech given by Professor Janet Lord here.

The BCA is a union between the BSRA, British Geriatrics Society (BGS), The British Society for Gerontology (BSG). The BCA can be contacted by email.
