BBSRC and NIA have been pursuing a policy of active collaboration for some time. It is expected that very soon a new funding programme will be announced.
The programme is expected to be for awards held jointly by an American and a British PI. The awards are expected to be of several years duration and to be large enough to support 1-2 post doctoral fellows.
The scientific scope of the programme will exclude age-related disease but will include any areas of ageing research within the remit of BBSRC and DAB. Areas of particular mutual interest that have already been identified include the genetics & molecular basis of ageing and longevity, immunosenescence, epigenetics/epigenomics, adult stem cell biology and the in vivo consequences of replicative senescence.
