A highly-motivated, bright and enthusiastic graduate is sought for an exciting research-training opportunity, fully-funded by the University of Hull as part of the ‘80th Anniversary' Scholarship programme. The research project will investigate the highly topical subject of cardiovascular ageing under the supervision of Dr Sandra Jones. Dr Jones’s research is focussed on understanding why the cardiovascular system, and in particular the heart itself, begins to fail with age thus becoming susceptible to damage and dysfunction. The studentship project will continue this research theme seeking to understand the mechanisms leading to the problems of the aged heart. Applicants should have at least a 2.1 honours degree (or predicted) ideally in a biological science, with a keen interest in cardiovascular or ageing biology. Available from autumn 2009 (an initial stipend of £13,290 2009/10), the successful candidate will pursue a research project using the techniques of proteomics and genomics, functional analysis and computational biology with Dr Jones, joining the cardiovascular research group in newly refurbished space at the University of Hull working alongside staff from the Hull & York Medical School (HYMS). Experience of these techniques within the biology or cardiac field is desirable, but not essential to the application. For further details please visit the website: http://www.hull.ac.uk/biosci/staff/academic/CellularProcesses/SandraJones.html For further enquiries please contact Dr. Jones: s.a.jones@hull.ac.uk. Closing date: 5th June 2009 Application forms: http://www.hull.ac.uk/postgraduate/80thanniversaryphd/index.html
