Membership and Renewals

Formed in 1943, the British Society for Research on Ageing (BSRA) is the world’s oldest gerontological Society, and has an international membership base.   BSRA promotes research to understand the causes and effects of the ageing process.  Membership of the Society brings the following package of benefits:

Annual Scientific Meeting
This year will be the 53rd Society’s ASM held in the UK, showcasing of national and international research on ageing.  We have an exciting 2-day meeting on the 15-16th July 2010 in Newcastle.  The Society welcomes all members to attend, both national and international members, and strives to make the ASM as easy as possible to attend.   As a BSRA member you will receive:

Reduced ASM registration.  All members can register at the reduced registration fee rate.
Prizes.  Our society believes in helping the younger scientist members, thus the ASM has sessions for presentation of their work, with prizes in both oral and poster categories.
Bursaries.  These are provided to enable some student BSRA members to attend the ASM.

Journals
The Springer Journal, Biogerontology, is the formal affiliated Journal of the society. Biogerontology offers a platform for research which aims primarily at achieving healthy old age accompanied by improved longevity.  Biogerontology publishes original research reports, reviews, hypotheses, new methods and interviews.  Membership of the BSRA brings with it the unique opportunity of an online subscription via BSRA website for no the additional charge.

The BSRA executive also negotiates other journal discounts for its Members. Currently, we offer the Elsevier journal, Mechanisms of Ageing and Development (MAD), to the membership at the reduced rate of £40 for a personal subscription (paper copy).  The subscription to MAD will run from the beginning of January for twelve months, and if you join later in the year you will receive all the issues until the end of December, plus all the back issues for that year that you have missed.  We also have a special discount with Ageing Cell for members, details of which are on the website.

The BSRA run an electronic newsletter to provide information of future UK & international meetings, funding opportunities, and any initiatives in our research field.  Membership means that you will receive this newsletter by email (if we have registered your email address with the BSRA).
